I, too, could not choose Shut Down or Restart without a hang/crash. I -could- 'log out' and then Shut Down or Restart 'from the login page'. The solution for me was to RE-enable compressed memory (which I had manually disabled previously). It can be done using this terminal command: sudo nvram -d boot-args IMPORTANT.
I have the macbook pro 15 2011 with intel core i7 2 GHz. 4 GB ram 500 GB drive HARD + SSD 120 GB (purchased recently with tray adapter HDD/SSD).
I have a strange problem with RESTART MAC in windows 10 company. If I restart windows by start I get a black screen with a single line: no aucun disque disk boot found, insert a floppy disk and press a key. I tried once more to restart, but the second time I pressed the ALT options and found strange thing that start menu does not show anything after a few minutes I saw recovery internet icon appeared. This problem occurs, restart windows through start or bootcamp app with option restart in mac os x. Then I stop mac and turn on, boots fine default OS (mac os x el capitan or windows) and with the option key boot menu appears with 2 choices of operating system. Restart windows to mac os x works, simply very good.
I'll show you my not what I did for my new hardware and software installation:
1. support usb bootable instalation with mac os x el capitan
2 changed main old HDD for a new SSD (location on hard disk)
3 installed mac os x el capitan on SSD.
4 used bootcamp to create the partition for windows
5 installed windows 10 on ssd with great drive
6 removed great player and place SSD hard disk space Super slot.
7. installed formatted old hdd hard drive location.
8 booted system, no problem found until I tried to reboot from windows to mac os x through the bootcamp software.
Cannot Boot Macbook Pro From Usb
I have turned off to quick start 10 Windows but did not help.
Suggestions? Drivers, works very well
Where a problem? How can I repair the partitions or menu start-up do not start because its boring.
IM new to macbook.
What can I test or do more?
Move your drive with Windows up to the main drive Bay and there leave. Put the OS x install disc in the Optibay. Test and verify.
There are paths in BCD, which can cause starting problems.

I just update the OS in my MacBook Pro (late 2011) which worked perfectly well 'El Capitan' to 'Sierra '. Everything went, smooth and pleasant. but now, the trackpad is completely erratic, is in itself (such as move and open programs like possessed). I tried several suggestions from apple such as checking for updates, check the settings, delete all the gestures, etc. I'm assuming that the material is very well that was perfectly fine yesterday.. any suggestions please help. -Note; I have to use an external mouse, and the latter is very well.
Thank you for using communities of Apple Support. It is my understanding that after upgrading to Sierra, your MacBook trackpad has become erratic. I know that my trackpad is an important part of my daily use, I can certainly understand your concern. I'm here to help get this resolved with you.
You did an excellent job so far! Then I recommend the system management controller (SMC) reset. This system can solve some unexpected behaviors. Follow the steps below:
- Stop the Mac.
- Unplug the MagSafe from Mac power adapter.
- Remove the battery. (Learn about removing the battery in the MacBook and MacBook Pro computers).
- Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and the MagSafe power adapter.
- Press the power button to turn on the Mac.
The LED on the MagSafe power adapters could change State or temporarily disable when you reset the SMC.
If the problem persists, test this problem in safe mode. This will allow you to exclude the software as the cause. To help get started in safe mode and additional steps, use the steps and the link below:
- Start or restart your Mac.
- As soon as you hear the startup tone, hold down the SHIFT key.
- Release the SHIFT key when you see the logo Apple appears on the screen.
After the Apple logo appears, this may take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your office. This is because your Mac performs a check of directory of your drive to boot in safe mode.
To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.
See you soon!
So I finally finished putting my double drive on my MacBook Pro late 2011. I ended up putting the SSD where the optical drive has been, since research told me that the end 2011 MBP is the lucky model with an optical drive that supports Sata III. If anyone can give me a reason to spend my SSD and HDD, please let me know.
Anyway, now I ask to help with setting up my macbook pro to use two disks. I copied everything on the SSD and the SSD drive is set to start my computer to the top. I can already tell that this thing is so much faster now. However, I basically just have two exact copies of my all my stuff on the two disks. How can I configure my computer to know which drive to use? I want a few things to use my HARD drive and other things to use my SDD, not all at once. Where are these settings and how to do?
Thank you in advance!
I have a Macbook Pro 2011 start.
I installed a 500 GB Samsung 850 EVO instead of HD.
I moved the HD to the optical Bay.
Optical Bay has 3 Gigabit speed. HD space has a 6 Gigabit speed.
See the screenshots of my mac.
The old HD, I would reformat is not bootable.
I use my old HD for storage of movies, etc.
So for example, I'll download a movie and then move it to my old hard drive. I'll put it in a directory named for example movies.
On the SSD, I'll do an 'Alias' pointing to the movies on the old HD directory (on windows, it would be a shortcut).
In any case, hope this helps.
I bought Kingston Hyperx Savage 480 GB SSD with the intention to install it into my Macbook Pro beginning 2011. but my Mac does not recognize the SSD when I connect it via USB. The strange part when I restart the Mac keeping the SSD attached to it, he acknowledged. And I can copy and paste normally. in the case where if I deleted and plugging it back in, it is appears as not counted. is there a solution for this or if I should change the SSD?
Should work well.
connect the USB box,
Start DiskUtility, (a) select the drive, the long name,
Select the partition tab in,
partition with the Table to Partition GUID, 1 partition only, OS X Extended (journaled), give it a name (like Mac - SSD).
After that it is ready to clone the boot disk and then swap the drives.
Can I put OS Lion directly to El Capitan without an intermediate upgrade. I have a MacBook Pro late 2011. Safari no longer works on a lot of web content with this OS not.
I want to update MacBook Pro (late 2011) to a SSD drive, but I do not have what to choose. I have my eye on 960 GB SATA III, but I don't know if it's ok to use a greater than 512 GB SSD and SATA III ok?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
Yes it's OK to use a size larger than 512 GB SSD, and Yes, SATA 3 is OK.
M Macbook Pro (late 2011) heat a lot! Especially when I use Photoshop, the fan make a * lot of noise!
It seems that your iPhone is also hot. You use the devices in a hot environment?
If I take 4K video on my iPhone 6s and import it on my iMac MacBook Pro 2010/2011 will be playing the video and watch as she lets say a new iMac 4 / 5K? iMovie and final cut PRO supports 4K video for editing right?
It will look like at its native resolution. On your Mac, the displayed video will be reduced as a result of your visible area onscreen. That does not mean the video will look terrible, but not so good that it would have on the 4 k or 5 k.
My internal superdrive drive just died, a kind of inner part rattling.. sounded like a trombone bouncing around. Has to be replaced. Wanted to buy an external drive of Supe but it won't work with my MacBook Pro late 2011. I need to burn DVDs for my students and have no desire to kill an other intern. Any suggestions on a good external draft horse?
My wife has an i5 to 2.3 GHz MacBook Pro early 2011 and it worked like a slug. Ran disk utility and verified that the disk needs repair using recovery HD. What does this lead and what is the risk of losing all the data is there?
Even if it is very slow, you must make a return upwards before the race 'repair disk'. The risk of data loss is minimal, but do it anyway: Save and run to repair the disk.
As for what it implies - most of the time nothing more than simply sitting and waiting to do his thing.
I want to upgrade the 512 GB drive HARD on my MacBook Pro 13 '2011 model to a 1 TB SSD.
I would like to know if it is safe and that it will improve the performance of my computer?
If your computer is under warranty I would take a first service provider since the upgrade of the disk hard yourself may void the warranty.
Hard disks have magnetic disks called platters, that something similar to a needle, called a head, uses to read and write data. Solid disks have no moving parts so the data is read and written much faster than a hard drive. From a HDD for one SSD must have a performance increase, but it will only increase performance when the determinant of the performance are the storage of read and write times. The amount of applications that are running at the same time is always dependent on the amount of system memory. The time that processor intensive tasks such as converting video and audio can take is still dependent on the processor. Several components material impact on the overall performance of the computer system from a disk HARD of a DDI will only have an impact on performance when the data is written to or read from storage.
I have a macbook pro with bootcamp (pour windows and osx on mac LUN) must I purchase two licenses?
Thanks for your reply.
Adobe CC license can be activated on 2 machines using the same Adobe ID, but can be used only 1 at a time.
recently worked when all of a sudden my screen turned to a variety of 'snow '. After about 2 seconds, he stopped, but the screen was seriously messed up. Horizontal lines apart a few millimeters, but the lines look as if they were moving a little. In addition, the edge of the screen is now near the Center, rather than on the edge of the physical screen. So, there is a black bar halfway in the screen which cut into 2.
It froze the computer as well, if I pressed the power to restart. It loaded very well through the screen of apple, but as soon as he hit the login screen, he returned to no usable lines. Cannot get back in.
Anyone that prior experience, or know what I can do to get out of trouble? Looks different from most other 'horizontal' issues I found in searching.
Thanks and best,

My Macbook Pro has now become very slow in recent years to the point that it takes about 2-3 minutes at the start and another 3 minutes for the Finder to start and bar + apps become available and be able to use (otherwise fury beach ball!).
I always held up-to-date and think that the issue could have begun with a patch somewhere that might be too heavy on such a machine in (?) 'old'. I don't remember not to what update started.. probably just after Snow Leopard or Lion.
I did everything advised on the web, disk check, PRAM reset, remove and free on the hard disk, the cache of the system of cleaning with Terminal.. I then used EtreCheck and the result was 'below average', emphasizing 17 errors on the disk. What does that mean?? Should I reinstall the OS or should I replace the HDD and redo the whole machine? If one of these, how do I go about it for this laptop, if that's possible?

It is clear from your hard drive is/maybe default. Make a backup, best 2 separated on 2 discs. Wake the computer from the tests. You may be able to get at least a temporary solution to erasing and reformatting.
Make a backup, best 2 separated on 2 discs. Start of recovery volume (command - R on a restart, or hold down the option/Alt during a restart and select the Volume of recovery). Run disk utility, then select first aid. Reformat the hard disk using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS extended (journaled), then click on the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the operating system. Use Wizard settings to restore your backup.
My MacBook Pro (2011), in courses running 10.6.2 has developed a keyboard problem.
I can not type the u. W or w.
At first I thought that this could be a problem with any browser I was using at the time, but it happens on Word and Pages.
I'be restarted a few times, but it is an intermittent thing since the last two weeks.
I'm typing this on my iPad right now.
I don't know if it is worth to replace the keyboard, or get an additional keyboard - Bluetooth compatible perhapps.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?
It's 10.6.8 I am running 10.6.2

Watching the MacBook display to freeze, distort or blank is some situations that can never be a welcome event. There are specific MacBook issues with which you can continue working without being bothered much, but when it’s about the display, there’s no way you can sit tight patiently. Display and graphics issues are something that’s required to be addressed immediately.
In case, you are lucky enough, you might be facing a temporary glitch, but unfortunately, it is not possible in most cases. The glitch that you’re facing might be an indication of the future problems to come. So, if the problem is temporary, it would just be fixed with a restart, but if it’s not, it’s better to look out for the way to get it fixed.
When the issues are with the display and graphics, there are some troubleshooting tips which can help you get through the problem. Fix it, when in case you need MacBookPro LCD Display Repair for a broken or smashed screen, it is not recommended to take the responsibility of fixing it yourself. In such cases, it is always better to reach out to the experienced professionals of MacBook Pro Repair Singapore and let them take hold of the situation and ultimately you’ll get back your favorite device without any problem with it.
But sometimes the problem might be associated with the graphics. Here are some of the common display problems that you might encounter while working on a MacBook:
1. MacBook Stuck on a Blue or Grey Screen on Startup:
You might have faced or will encounter your MacBook stuck in blue or grey screen while you start it up. For sometimes you might keep waiting that it is nothing but taking more time to start, but soon you’ll realize that something’s wrong here.
2. Colored Lines on the Display:
This is a sight that might leave to dumbstruck for some times. Suppose you are working on your MacBook and suddenly all vanish away and what’s left is, just the colored vertical lines all over the screen. You keep clicking on different keys, but unfortunately, that won’t be making any difference.
3. Broken Display:
Now this is the most dreadful sight that you would never expect to see. But you never know what goes wrong and suddenly you drop your MacBook, and you know what you never wanted to, the cracked screen into dozens of pieces. Unfortunately, this is not something with which you can deal alone. If you are an expert with MacBook hardware, only then you should try changing the broken screen. But if not, it is always recommended that you should let the MacBook repairing professionals deal with the problem, and in no time you can get the screen replaced, and you’ll have your MacBook back to life.
But in case, you’ll face the display problems that can be handled; you can consider working on the troubleshooting methods, mentioned ahead, to get a way out of those problems and get back to using your device efficiently again.
Restart Your Mac
It might surprise you, but sometimes just turning your MacBook off and on can fix many issues, but not always. In some display issues, restarting the MacBook can support you in getting the things back to the place, giving back your MacBook back in proper functioning condition. Restarting the MacBook Pro sometimes help in clearing out both the system and graphics RAM, restarts the central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU), and bringing back everything to function appropriately in orderly steps.
Make Sure the MacBook’s Display is Plugged In and Turned On
Though it might sound obvious to you in case, if you are using any separate display, other than the one which is built in your Mac, you should take time to check if it’s on and if it is correctly connected to the MacBook or not. The idea might scoff you to see any loose cable or power turned off by any kids or adults in the house. If you are making the use of a display which is an integral part of the MacBook, it is essential to verify if the brightness is set accurately.
Reset the SMC
The SMC or the System Management Controllers play a significant role in managing the display of the MacBook. The SMC supports in controlling the built-in backlighting of the display and also in detecting the ambient lighting of the system. Not only this, but SMC also helps in adjusting the brightness and detecting the lip position of the MacBook along with a few other factors that are responsible for affecting the display of the MacBook. Thus, when you face any problem with the MacBook display, it is possible that your SMC might need resetting. In case, you don’t know how to reset it; you can consider studying about it online before trying or let someone do it that has the right idea about it.
Reset the PRAM/NVRAM
The non-volatile RAM (NVRAM) or parameter RAM (PRAM)have the display settings of the monitor with all the associated features like the color depth, resolution, color profiles which are to use, the number of displays, refresh rate and more. If the PRAM or NVRAM gets corrupt, it can lead to changing the display setting of your MacBook, which will ultimately lead to showing you some strange colors on the screen and restricting you to resume back to previous settings. In such cases, resetting it is the only way out to get the standard display back. If you don’t know how it’s done, reach out to the professionals who’ll do it for you.
Cannot Restart Mac Pro
You can also consider using Safe Mode for isolating graphics problems that you might face. In the Safe Mode, the MacBook end up booting in a stripped down version of Mac OS which loads barely minimum extensions, clears out the system caches, disable most fonts and will also delete the dynamic loader cache, which is said to be the major problem with various MacBook display issues. While using the Safe Mode, make sure you disconnect all the external peripherals which are connected to your MacBook.
Cannot Restart Macbook Pro
Sometimes, you’ve not interpreted, but the problem lies in your software only.
